Groot Yard Waste Collection Starts on April 1st
There will be no change to the yard waste collection program. Groot will continue to provide weekly yard waste collection for all single-family residents from April 1st through November 30th. All yard waste must be placed in biodegradable paper bags. Biodegradable paper bags must not exceed 33 gallons in size and 50 pounds in weight. Residents may request a separate yard waste cart for a seasonal fee and a one-time drop-off charge by calling Groot at (847) 429-7370. Christmas trees are collected from December 26th through January 31st at no additional charge. Afterward, they can be disposed of as bulk items.
Acceptable yard waste: Illinois state law prohibits the land-filling of yard waste, as follows:
- Grass clippings and leaves
- Branches and brush
- Planting materials: garden plants, flowers, weeds, vines, bark pieces, pine cones, etc.
Unacceptable materials (treated as garbage):
- Garden vegetables and fruit (may be compostable)
- Tree trunks, stumps, and large limbs
- Fence posts, railroad ties, firewood, and other wood objects
- Sod, earth, and rocks
REMINDER: Please do not rack leaves into the street. It is a code violation and results in storm sewer drainage grates/tops becoming blocked/plugged up.
